Arisaema triphyllum (Araceae)
(a-ris-EE-ma tri-FI-lum)
Jack-in-the-Pulpit

In spring, three-leaved foliage gives rise to a hooded spathe (the "Pulpit"), around a central column (the spadix, or "Jack"). Curiously beautiful. Summer brings shiny green berries that slowly turn bright red in early fall. The leaves, flowers and berries are all showy. Jack-in-the-Pulpit is a favorite woodland wildflower and prefers a moist, shady location.
