Aristolochia tomentosa (Aristolochiaceae)
Hairy Dutchman's Pipe
This high-climbing vine with downy, heart-shaped leaves is the larval food source for the Pipevine Swallowtail. 1.5" pipe-shaped flowers are tannish-yellow with a purple orifice. In the wild this rambler is found on stream and river banks and in damp woods with fertile soil. Give the big guy plenty of summer moisture in the sunny or brightly shaded garden. May colonize over time.
