Aristolochia tomentosa (Aristolochiaceae)
(Ah-ris-to-LO-kee-ah to-men-TO-sa)
Hairy Dutchman's Pipe

This high-climbing vine with downy heart-shaped leaves provides a larval food source for the Pipevine Swallowtail. 1.5" pipe-shaped flowers are tannish-yellow with a purple throat. In the wild, this rambler is found on stream and river banks and in damp woods with fertile soil. Provide plenty of summer moisture in sun or bright shade -- crazy-cool caterpillars will thank you!
