Carex grayii (Cyperaceae)
Gray's Sedge, Morning Star Sedge
Medium green, grassy leaves form a soft, low mound -- great for naturalizing in wet areas. Plant in a moist location in sun or part shade. Topped in late spring with curious 1” spiky-ball seed heads – a textural treat in the garden, and a unique addition to floral arrangements. These little starburst pods provide interest through the year as they dry to a light brown and persist into winter. One of our favorites!
