Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Firewitch' (Caryophyllaceae)
2006 Plant of the Year, Perennial Plant Association. If your Dianthus collection is a bit too pastel for your tastes, tuck in a bit of 'Firewitch'. Brilliant, bright magenta, clove-scented blooms top silvery-blue, evergreen leaves. Heavy spring bloom is followed by sporadic summertime rebloom. Foliage tops out at 4" and flowers at 6-8", resulting in a tight and tidy groundcover and path edger for sunny to partially shady, well-drained locations.
