Echinacea sanguinea (Asteraceae)
A lovely and very graceful species of Echinacea native to east TX. Narrow strap-like petals curve softly downward and curl under slightly. The prominent cone opens burgundy, and turns fluorescent orange. Soft pink flowers float above lanceolate leaves. This is the most delicate flower of this clan that we have met. Plant in areas with good drainage and full to partial sun. Thanks to TX plantsman Peter Loos for sharing this wonderful species with us! Not sure of its cold hardiness range -- would love your feedback.
