Hosta x 'Carolina Blue' (Liliaceae)
Alumni from the University of North Carolina who are also gardeners will want to include their alma mater in their garden. Bob Solberg, local and national Hosta guru, crossed 'Halcyon' with 'Riptide' with the goal of finding a hosta that holds blue foliage longer. It worked. Medium, light blue leaves covered with wax on the top and bottom "holds the blue" with light lavender flowers on blue scapes in late summer. The first set of leaves are pointed; the second flush is rounded. A fast grower. This is a great gift for your Carolina buddies. Go Heels! Not native.
