Kerria japonica 'Single Flowering' (Rosaceae)
Japanese Tea Rose, Easter Rose
We love the single-flowered version of this garden classic. Not seen as often as the frilly double-blooming variety, we enjoy the simplicity of the wide yellow blooms. In spring, this Kerria is showered with single 2" golden blossoms. Settled in the edge of the woodland garden, this tough shrub has a strong arching form of 4-5' that looks like a soft full skirt. Blends into the summer and fall garden, with highlighter-yellow fall foliage and bright green stems that are nice in winter. Give it 5-6' of space; lightly prune to shape after flowering.
