Kerria japonica 'Single Flowering' (Rosaceae)
Japanese Tea Rose, Easter Rose
We love the single-flowered version of this garden classic: it is not seen as often as the frilly double-blooming variety, and we enjoy the simplicity of the wide yellow blooms. In spring, this Kerria is clothed with single 2" golden blossoms. Settled in the edge of the woodland garden, this tough shrub has a strong, arching form of 4-5' that looks like a soft, full skirt. It blends quietly into the summer and fall garden and its green stems are nice in winter. Give it 5-6' of space; lightly prune to shape after flowering.
