Lamiastrum galeobdolon 'Herman's Pride' (Lamiaceae)
(lam-ee-AS-trum ga-lee-OB-do-lon)
Yellow Archangel

Lamiums offer pleasing textures and variegation, generally in ground cover form, for the partially shaded garden. 'Herman's Pride' is more behaved than the species, with tiny serrated leaves that stand upright 6-9" tall, with deep green veins highlighted by silver markings. In spring, attractive whorls of yellow flowers appear, but the strength of this plant is the variegation in the foliage. Plant beneath woodland shrubs and trees, or try it among other shade-loving perennials (beneath the huge white summertime flowers of Hydrangea 'Annabelle', as a soft carpet around the feet of Oak Leaf Hydrangea, or beneath Magnolia virginiana). Not native.
