Lespedeza thunbergii 'Alba' (Fabaceae)
(less-pe-DEEZ-a thun-BERG-ee-eye)
White Bush Clover

When white Lespedeza blooms in fall, it stops people in their tracks. Dozens of stems spring from the ground and zoom up to 5-6' by midsummer, then arch over as the flowers form. Thousands of 3/4" white pea-like blossoms cover the plant for several weeks. Beautiful in the border as a background for smaller plants, but be sure to give its weeping form plenty of space. We do not cut back until late winter, as it provides visual interest.
