Rough Gayfeather grows 3-4 feet tall; in midsummer, stems are covered with many round, 1" lavender flowers spread along the stalk. This tough and drought-tolerant prairie plant is native from Texas north to the Dakotas and eastward to the Atlantic coast. as with all Liatris, blooms open from the top of the inflorescence to the base. Beautiful in the garden or meadow, all gayfeathers make wonderful cut flowers. Plant in lean, well-drained soil in full sun. Native.
