Magnolia macrophylla (Magnoliaceae)
(mag-NOL-ee-ah mack-row-FILL-ah)
Bigleaf Magnolia

Bigleaf Magnolia lives up to its name, with leaves up to 3' long by 1' wide. Grows into a large deciduous tree with an open habit, reaching up into the canopy of a hardwood forest. Uncommon throughout its range, it is found occasionally in woodlands from FL north to OH and west to AR. Spectacular white lemon-scented blooms reach up to 1' across! Hard to find in the trade, and makes a showy prize for the collector. We grow these from seed.
