Monarda didyma 'Bryan Thompson' (Lamiaceae)
White Bee Balm
Many thanks to Texas plantsmen Dave Creech and Peter Loos for giving us this lovely white-flowering Bee Balm, discovered near Tyler, TX, by the late Bryan Thompson of Thompson Hills Nursery. Plants appear to be a color variant of the typically red M. didyma, but are similar in appearance to M. clinopodia (‘Basil Bee Balm’). This special and uncommon Monarda selection has a somewhat loose habit and is very mildew resistant; spidery bright-white blooms are a cool summer treat!
