Panicum virgatum 'Northwind' (Poaceae)
Upright, blue and big: a great Panicum originally recommended to us by NCBG emeritus Rob Gardner. Wide blades turn olive green during the heat of summer; fall foliage is an attractive yellow on 6-7' plants topped with airy panicles. Best in in lean soil in full sun, but adapts easily to poorly drained areas. Reliably upright and non-flopping — an exciting selection from Northwind Perennial Farm in WI.
