Sarracenia leucophylla (Sarraceniaceae)
White-Topped Pitcher Plant
The White-Topped Pitcher Plant is considered by many to be the most beautiful of this clan. Tall, narrow pitchers are topped with snowy-white fluted edges and hoods that are heavily veined in red; white tops become luminaries on moonlit nights, attracting night-flying insects. A new flush of pitchers appears in spring and again in fall, and make wonderful additions to flower arrangements. Grow in a sunny moist bog, or in a container with a peat and sand mixture. Enjoy their exquisite beauty as they lure and consume insects in your garden.
