Stokesia laevis 'Mary Gregory' (Asteraceae)
Yellow-Flowered Stokes' Aster
A 1998 Niche Gardens Introduction. This unique color selection has been shared among South Carolina gardeners for some time; named for Columbia gardener Mary Gregory, it was passed-along to us by Lexington plantsman Mike Creel. While the species normally has lavender-blue flowers, 'Mary' blooms a lovely pale-yellow for 3-4 weeks in midsummer. With a compact form at 1.5', she is perfect tucked into the front of a sunny border. Excellent paired with mustardy-yellow SC BBQ.
