Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple' (Verbenaceae)
(ver-BEE-na kan-a-DEN-sis)
Purple Verbena

Dr. Allan Armitage and Dr. Michael Dirr found this time-tested Verbena at a country homestead in GA. Very vigorous in growth and flower production, this trailing Verbena bears round clusters of deep-purple flowers from early spring until frost; brightens and softens the edge of a sunny border, while attractive scalloped leaves add nice texture. Allow stems to remain throughout the winter; tidy up by removing any dieback in early spring. An early and long-lasting nectar source for many pollinators.
