Carex cherokeensis (Cyperaceae)
Cherokee Sedge has a native range across the Southeast and into TX. A most versatile Carex, it forms rich-green fountains in slowly spreading clumps, reaching a height of 1.5' and performing well in sun or shade. While best suited to moist soil, this sedge is tough enough to tolerate average-to-dry conditions. Wheat-like seed heads add interest in late spring.
