Plum-Sweet Azalea

A natural cross between the red-blooming R. prunifolium and the white-blooming R. arborescens, Plum-Sweet exhibits the best traits of both parents. Fragrant blossoms in shades of rose-pink cover this large native shrub in midsummer. Both parents prefer stream banks and shady ravines. Sweet Azalea is found as far north as NY, while Plumleaf Azalea is confined to the middle and lower South; this hybrid is probably hardy from zones 6-9. This rare and exquisite plant belongs in every azalea-lovers collection.
