Baptisia tinctoria (Fabaceae)
(bap-TIS-ee-ah tink-TOR-ee-ah)
Yellow Wild Indigo

Showy, bright-yellow flowers bloom mid-to-late summer but will appear sporadically from May to September. It loves a well-drained location in sun to bright shade, and since it fixes nitrogen, can tolerate poor soils. Spends its first few years growing a large and extensive root system. Can be slow at first, but worth the wait it's tough and drought-tolerant once established.
