Echinacea x 'Twilight' (Asteraceae)
(ek-in-AY-see-a)
Twilight Coneflower

Selected from crosses of E. purpurea and E. paradoxa, these Coneflowers provide a whole new range of exciting Echinacea colors. Notable for their sturdy growth and branching habit, these hybrids are also extremely vigorous. Petals are overlapped and slightly flexed for a full looking bloom. An unexpected and lovely fragrance makes them ideal candidates for planting in an area frequented by the gardener. Site these beautiful Coneflowers in full sun and average, well-drained soil. They will bring welcome visitors into your garden: butterflies love the nectar and birds snack on the seeds. Plant in groups for swaths of Coneflower color, or mix them together in the border for a rainbow of hues. 'Twilight' has fragrant blooms that are a rich, bright red with magenta and coral tones, almost glowing. The full petals surround a red cone that ages to a dark burgundy.
