Callirhoe digitata (Malvaceae)
(cal-eh-ROW-ee di-ji-TAH-ta)
Fringed Poppy Mallow

Slender branching stems are pastel blue-green with a waxy cast; topped in summer with bright-magenta, cup-shaped blooms. Finely dissected leaves and an upright habit distinguish this species from our other Callirhoes. Airy foliage and eye-popping flower color mix beautifully with other plants in the sunny border or meadow. Site it well to allow its tough taproot to develop for superb drought-tolerance. Hailing from OK and the western Ozarks, this unusual and exciting wildflower is an old Niche favorite.
