Heuchera villosa var. purpurea 'Bronze Wave' (Saxifragaceae)
Hairy Alumroot

A Heuchera villosa cultivar from Charles Oliver of Primrose Path, source of some of our favorite Heucheras. The H. villosa parentage makes 'Bronze Wave' one of the best-suited to our heat and humidity. Large glossy leaves are 8" across with wavy margins, on a big clump 2' wide by 1-1.5' tall. Foliage is dark with copper, purple and brown tones, blending into a metallic bronze color. Blooms in late summer with 3 tall, see-through wands of tiny white flowers. H. villosa is a SE native, and is more tolerant of our hot wet summers than other species that tend to melt away. Brings a rich and unusual color palette to shaded areas needing a low-growing perennial.
