Rosa 'Peggy Martin' (Rosaceae)
(RO-za)
The Katrina Rose

In rosarian Peggy Martin's garden just outside New Orleans, hundreds of roses died in the brackish floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina. This amazing climbing rose was the only one to survive the flood. While her exact origins are unknown, this is a rose which has been passed down through generations of rosarians. Foliage is bright green with elegant arching thornless canes and bountiful sprays of small dark-pink double roses. 'Peggy' has a long spring bloom period, sporadic summer flowering, and an additional fall flush. This near-constant flowering will be achieved in time, as she reaches her impressive size. Propagated from Peggy's original plant by Dr. William Welch of Texas A&M. Thanks to Chapel Hill gardener extraordinaire Kit Flynn for our cuttings. Photo by the "My Weeds Are Very Sorry" blog.
