Symphyotrichum georgianum (Asteraceae)
Uncommon in the wild, Georgia Aster really stands out, with huge 2" dark purple flowers with white centers; one of the richest colors of any of our native asters. A primo fall bloom time of October through frost, with a height of 3-4'. For shorter plants, cut back by half in July, or layer it with Schizachyrium 'The Blues' in front and Helianthus 'Gold Lace' behind, for a dynamic (and tough!) trio.
