Iris sibirica 'Contrast in Styles' (Iridaceae)

Native to moist sunny meadows in central Europe and Russia, this iris has typical upright narrow foliage and blooms in mid spring with several small elegant flowers per stem. Burgundy-purple standards contrast with pale blue styles (get it?), highlighted by a yellow signal. Prefers moist sunny places but is tolerant of dry conditions. Will not come true from seed, but bulbs multiply to create a dense patch. Great cut flowers.
