Epimedium x 'Dark Beauty' (Berberidaceae)
Dark Beauty Epimedium
'Dark Beauty' is a natually occuring hybrid selection of E. grandiflorum. One of the first Epimediums to bloom, in early spring it sends up delicate black stems to about 1', topped with dark-rose blooms with a white throat. Spring foliage emerges a deep chocolate-purple, then turns green by summer. Like all Epimediums, it is an excellent part-to-full-shade groundcover. Deer don't like it, and its tight coverage prevents competition from weeds.
