Sambucus canadensis 'Two Pack' (Adoxaceae)
Pair of Elderberries
Elderberries are beloved by people and birds alike for their large purple-black fruit clusters in early Autumn. Fast-growing, with large compound leaflets, it is an informal shrub, great for natural areas and hedgerows. White flat-topped flower clusters are striking in summer, offering nectar for bees and butterflies, and can be used for elderflower syrups and cordials. Dark purple berries are high in anti-oxidants, and are used for juice, jam, syrup, pies and wine (if you can beat the birds to them). Moist soil is best, but they are adaptable. To manage size, cut hard in late winter. Plant two varieties for fruit set. We'll pick out two varieties for you, at a discounted price.
