A native prairie grass widely distributed west of the Mississippi, it is short at 6", up to one foot when in bloom. It blooms throughout the summer, small red brush-like flowers hang from the ends of the stems turning straw colored by winter, small clumps can be planted densely for a ground cover or lawn substitute, can tolerate some foot traffic, drought tolerant, needs full sun.
