Eupatorium fistulosum (Asteraceae)
Hollow Joe-Pye Weed
Butterflies love the large billowy globes of pale pinkish-mauve florets that top towering plants in mid-to-late summer. Joe-Pye is beautiful swaying in the breeze — a great specimen, or as a backdrop to other perennials and shrubs. Wet or moist locations in full sun are best, but tolerates light shade. Plant Joe-Pye with Boltonia and goldenrod for a pleasing meadow trio.
